Hi, friends! I'm Mamata.

I am... a lot of things: current New Yorker, proud Hufflepuff, Captain America/Marvel super fan, country music lover, writer, blogger, traveller, fast talker, slow eater... You get the point. :)

But above all, I'm a meditator. I've been practicing Heartfulness Meditation, a heart-based meditation, for nearly nine years, and I've been a meditation trainer for four years. Meditation has been the foundation of my life since conception; it's the tool that I use to stay grounded, centered, and interested in my own self-development.

Committing to a daily heart-based meditation practice has a myriad of benefits: stronger routines and time management, increased focus and diligence, better sleeping patterns, stronger communication skills and empathy, and a continuous state of inner peace. The stronger my commitment is to my daily meditation practice, the more I see myself permanently developing these positive habits. I am a better person because I meditate daily.

So many people have told me that they are interested in meditation, but they don't know where to start. Through funny anecdotes, personal stories, a little bit of vulnerability, and a whole lot of love, my goal is to provide deeper insight into Heartfulness Meditation, its techniques, and what steps you can take to ease meditation into your daily routine. I hope you'll subscribe to my website and follow along!

In the meantime, you can check out my TEDx Talk (which has been viewed over 2 million times!), my talk at the NGO Committee on the Status of Women/New York panel, and a bunch of blog posts that share a little bit more about me. You can also follow me on Twitter and Instagram.

Thanks for following along, friends!

With Love.,

#MeditationMonday The Importance of Daily Meditation

Happy #MeditationMonday, friends! I had a great conversation the other night with one of my best friends about the importance of consistency when building habits. It can be easy to try something out for a few days, then table it when we either fall out of habit or feel like it isn’t working for us. But if we only give something a shot for a short period of time, have we really maximized on all of its benefits?

I’m the first to admit that I’m guilty of going days without meditating, only to try to pick it up toward the end of the week and give up quickly because it feels difficult to do after days of not practicing. It can be easy to lose interest in something if we aren’t trying it out consistently. Because meditation is initially challenging, it feels easier to move on from it quickly without giving it a lengthier chance.

A daily commitment is critical in order to reap the benefits of meditation. Just like a sport or any skill, really, meditation must be exercised like a muscle in order to grow its abilities. One of the purposes of Heartfulness Meditation is to create internal peace through self-connection by meditating on the heart. Maintaining the strength of that connection, and working toward a permanent space of peace internally, can only happen by connecting with your heart daily. It’s recommended to try the Heartfulness practice out for at least seven months to truly understand the depth of its benefits.

If you’re struggling to commit to meditation, don’t give up! :) After all these years, there are still days (and weeks!) where I struggle to get in the chair and mediate. What motivates me is understanding the benefits, and recognizing how much better my life is when my mediation practice is on track. Meditation is definitely a challenging concept, but with willpower, self-interest, and commitment, it can become a daily part of your life in no time.

Got questions about meditation? I’d love to answer them, so comment below or email me at mamata.venkat@heartfulness.org. I hope all of you are staying warm on this cold NYC day— happy Monday, friends!

With Love.,

Mamata
